Sleep Management Program Overview

Sleep apnea, also called obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), is a common disorder that affects more than 18 million people in the United States.  OSA takes its name from the Greek word apnea, which means "without breath."  In many of these people, the condition is undiagnosed.

People with sleep apnea literally stop breathing repeatedly during their sleep, often for a minute or longer and as many as hundreds of times during a single night.  The disorder can exacerbate other conditions such as diabetes, GERD, heart disease, high blood pressure and stroke that, when left untreated, can lead to other complications resulting in increased healthcare utilization.

In 2008, CareCore National partnered with Sleep Management Solutions to create CareCore Sleep Management, a company that specializes in providing quality and utilization management of sleep diagnostic and therapeutic services.  The partnership combines CareCore National's utilization and quality management expertise with Sleep Management Solution's expertise in clinical criteria, medical policy, patient therapy compliance, and network and distribution infrastructure to create a program that comprehensively addresses sleep disorders.

CareCore Sleep Management assists payors to manage the growing demand for sleep services by addressing a wide range of procedures from the initial diagnosis to the ongoing monitoring of patient compliance with sleep therapy.  The CareCore Sleep Management Program improves the quality of care being delivered to sleep patients while reducing costs associated with sleep disordered breathing.
