Aetna Outpatient Radiation Therapy Program

Effective June 1, 2010, Aetna will be adding outpatient radiation therapy services management to its HMO-based plans (including Medicare) in the metropolitan New York and northern New Jersey markets. With the exception of northern New Jersey small group plans, Aetna members will require preauthorization for non-emergent, outpatient radiation therapy services. For small group plans in northern New Jersey, submitted claims will be reviewed for medial necessity. However, oncologists are encouraged to submit requests for preauthorization prior to treating Aetna patients when possible.
